Romans 1:17 (NKJV)
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith." In order to understand " from faith to faith" we have to go to Hebrews 11:1 where it says,"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." I like what Manley Beasley defines faith:" Faith is calling those things which are not as though they are." As I explained Sunday it this way: Many are praying and hoping for the salvation of a love one, a friend, a co-worker, etc. We must move from the area of hoping to the area of believing. How do we do that? Begin to thank God for their salvation. Quit hoping and start believing. This doesn't answer the question : What is "from faith to faith?" I will get to that tomorrow.

Romans 1:17 (NKJV) "For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."
I want to share with you the phrase "from faith to faith." Because that will explain what " The just shall live by faith means. I have always been curious what the phrase "from faith to faith." most commentaries just skip over that and thus it has been rather frustrating for me as I study and read over the Book of Romans. I kept asking God to show me what it means. Then last week I was literally walking through the kitchen and God revealed to me what "faith to faith." Let me say at this point, I praise God that He continues to reveal His truth to us when we search for it. How often do you search for the truth? How often do you find it and understand it? " For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."- Romans 1:17
Romans 1:17 is considered by many the key verse of Romans. In it Paul announces the theme:" the righteousness of God." The word righteous is used in one way or another over sixty times in Romans. God's righteous is revealed in the gospel; for in the death of Christ, God revealed His righteousness by punishing sin and in the resurrection of Christ; He revealed His righteousness by making salvation to the believing sinner. " For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek."
Romans 1:16 The Origin of the gospel: It is the gospel of Christ The Operation of the gospel : It is the power of God The Outcome of the gospel: It is the power of God unto salvation The Outreach of the gospel: to everyone who believes. " go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." was Christ commission. And it has never change. That is why people continue to go to places that need the gospel. God does not ask people to behave in order to be saved, but to believe. " For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."-Romans 10:13 It is still true today. " For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek."- Romans 1:16 We have seen The Origin of the gospel: It is the gospel of Christ The Operation of the gospel: It is the power of God and the third: The Outcome of the gospel: It is the power of God unto salvation. The word salvation carried tremendous meaning in Paul's day, It basic meaning is "deliverance" and t was applied to personal and national deliverance. I believe most people today do not think they are sinners and need a Savior. But the gospel delivers sinners from the penalty and power of sin. Salvation is a major theme in this letter, salvation is the great need of of the human race. |
