From "The Man in the Mirror" by Patrick Morley
TOO BUSY Ron Jensen rented a travel camper and traveled around the country with his wife while working on his doctoral thesis. His task was to interview 350 Christian leaders. At the end of this tour, he made a discouraging observation. He said,: I found a great deal of zeal for God's work, but very little passion for God." The one exception he found was Cru founder Bill Bright, who wept openly as he spoke about his love for Jesus. Oh, for us to have that passion for Jesus today. Oh, for me to have that passion for Jesus.

Biblical and Cultural. We are going to examine these carefully now.
First there is –The Non-Christian- Luke 8:12 "Those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved. Christ makes it perfectly clear that not everyone who hears the Gospel will believe. They hear but refuse the free gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ. And their destiny is a devil's hell. The Cultural Christian: Type “D”
Luke 8:14 "The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity. Type “D” stands for defeated faith. The type “D” cultural Christian lives in defeat. And believe me no one wants your kind of faith. There is little , if any, difference between that lifestyle and the lifestyle of the person who make no claim to be in Christ. It is the person always asking for prayer, always looking for counsel, always unhappy, always down, always looking for some help. They have no victory and no one wants their kind of Christianity. Acts 1:8 (NASB)
...but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." From A.W. Tozer " As I see it, the great woe is not the presence of the religious toys and trifles- but the fact that they have become a necessity, and the presence of the Eternal Spirit is not in our midst. As we commit ourselves to excellence in reaching people for Christ, help us to remember that the power is mot in the methods or the means, but in the Person of the Holy Spirit.Amen." Acts 1:8 (NASB)
...but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." From A.W. Tozer " Some of these attractions that we have to win people and keep them coming may be fine or they may be cheap. They may be elevated or they may be degrading. They may be artistic or they may be coarse- it all depends upon who is running the show! But the Holy Spirit is not the center of attraction, and the Lord is not the one in charge. We bring in all sorts of antiscriptural and unscriptural claptrap to keep people happy and keep them coming." |
