The Convictor of Holy Things
John 16:8-11 (ESV) 8 And when he[Holy Spirit] comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. Three important tasks of the Holy Spirit are (1) convicting the world of its sin and calling it to repentance (2) revealing the standard of God’s righteousness to anyone who believes, because Christ is no longer physically present on earth and (3) demonstrating Christ’s judgment over Satan . Have you been convicted, revealed by the Holy Spirit of sin in your life or something you should not be doing? Or maybe there is something you are suppose to do and haven’t done it. Have you been shown or taught by the Holy Spirit , God’s holy standards of living? And do you know that there is going to be a judgment one day? The Baptizer
Matthew 3:11 (ESV) 11 “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 1 Corinthians 12:13 (ESV) 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. We come from different religious backgrounds- some think and believe and practice that the baptism in the Holy Spirit results in speaking in tongues. That is the evidence. Others believe that the baptism is when we receive Christ and being born again we are baptized spiritually into the body of Christ, the church. There is no outward evidence. And then others just ignore Him. No matter what persuasion you come from this is for sure: We are immersed( baptized) in the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit.
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. First, this is a command- “ be filled”. Secondly, the effects of being filled with the Spirit is: Singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs Making music in your heart and Vs. 20 says –“ Giving thanks” I can tell you a complaining, critical person is not filled with the Spirit. No way!
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. Romans 8:14 (ESV) 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Galatians 5:16 (NLT2) 16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The Holy Spirit wants to lead us in the right direction, into the truth but too often we want to go ahead of Him. We think we know the way and unfortunately, we do not go down the right road. Wait on the Lord, let the Spirit guide you. |
