The next verses are passage that exposes the folly of worshipping idols.
Psalm 115:4-8 (ESV) Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands.5 They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. 6 They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell. 7 They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat. 8 Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them. You may say, well I don’t worship an idol. Are you sure you don’t? There are sorts of modern day idols: Popularity- fitting in with the crowd. Career- climbing the corporate ladder Family or children can be an idol. Pleasure of sorts- can be an idol. Pornography- Personal appearance or physical fitness can become an idol. Certain types of possessions( material things) can be an idol. Entertainment, social media, Food can be an idol. I guess we can go on with the list. Anything that takes first place in your life except the Lord Jesus Christ is an idol. The Psalmist says the idols worshipers become like their idols.
