" Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John.-Luke 1:11-13 (NIV)
Why is it most if not all are gripped with fear when an angel appears before them? It is a common reaction when one encounters God or his agents. You know at this time of the year we see so many pictures, figurines of angels. The one that is humorous to me is the little children angels who are obese. You have seen them ,I am sure. As usual the angel always make the same statement," Do not be afraid." They must be awesome to see. When we are in a situation of being afraid the assurance of the Lord comes to us,"Do not be afraid." " Fear not" the Lord is with you.
