" More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb."Psalm 19:10
The way we treat the Bible is the way we treat the Lord, so it isn't difficult to determine whether we are rightly related to God. Do we desire His Word because it is precious to us , even more than wealth or tasty food? Do we find satisfaction in "feeding on" God's Word?

" Then He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Mark 14:37-38 This is much like Jonah in the boat. As the sailors were fighting for their lives, Jonah was asleep. While Jesus was struggling in prayer these three went to sleep. Could you not watch and pray for one hour is the question? And in most cases we cannot. This is a deep struggle for most believers. The inability to stay in prayer for any period of time. Yes, we want to but our flesh is weak. Then they came to a place which was named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, "Sit here while I pray." And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch."-Mark 14:32-34
Our Lord's struggle in the Garden can be understood only in the light of what would happen to Him on the cross: He would be made sin for us and bear the curse of the Law . It was not the physical suffering that almost overwhelmed Him with "anguish and sorrow," but the contemplation of being forsaken by His Father . This was "the cup" that He would drink . " They went out ti the Mount of Olives." Mark 14:26
This was a familiar place for Jesus and His disciples. Often it was a place of prayer and meditation. But this night it would be a place of confrontation and demonstration. I have been to this place on a few occasions and you cannot go there and not feel there is something special about it. You can actually feel the agony our Lord went through as He told Peter of his forthcoming denial and then His prayer time of travail. " And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives." Mark 14:26 The last thing Jesus and His disciples did in the Upper Room was to sing the traditional Passover hymn based on Psalm 115-118 . Imagine our Lord singing when the cross was only a few hours away! Jesus knew His purpose, His place, His preparation for what He was going to do for all mankind. When you are faced with difficulty , with hard decisions, what do you do? |
