Romans 2:24 (ESV) " For, as it is written, “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”
Paul was addressing a group who thought they had it all in the realm of religion and spiritual things but what they said was totally different than what they did. Jesus spoke to the scribes and Pharisees and told them they were vipers, snakes in the grass. That they loaded people down with rules and regulations and they didn't even follow themselves. They had a powerless, empty religion that did no one any good. Paul told Timothy about such people, he said 2 Timothy 3:5 (ESV) "[They] having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. " Good advice.
