In this chapter we come across the Rich man and Lazarus. In Jesus' parables he never uses the name of people so probably these two were real life persons. It says this that " the poor man died[Lazarus] and was carried by the angels to be with Abraham." ( Luke15:22) Then listen to what Jesus said about the rich man," The rich man died and was buried, and his soul went to the place of the dead(Hades). There, in torment...."
Do you know those who do not believe in a hell? This man was in torment. Another observation is that he could see up in heaven but they could not see him. Also there was a great chasm separating him from heaven. Once you die and you go to heaven or hell that's it. There is no passing from one to the other. It is permanent.

Luke 15 is what I entitle the Lost Chapter. It is about a lost sheep, a lost coin, and a lost son. Fortunately, they were all found.
Lost- eternally lost! What does that mean? It means if a person is not born again and a child of God , when they die they go to hell, a lake of fire where they are tormented forever. Hell was never intended for human kind , only the devil and his demons but unfortunately people go there. I know of men and women who have rejected Jesus Christ and have ended up there. A tragedy! Lost! Lost forever! The Cost of Being a Disciple
Luke 14:26-28 (NLT2) “If you want to be my disciple, you must hate everyone else by comparison—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple. And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple. “But don’t begin until you count the cost. Have you ever consider the real cost of following Jesus? The disciples gave up everything to follow Jesus. We , what have we given up? What has it cost to follow Jesus? Most follow Him at a distance, not wanting to be too serious, too fanatical. Look and see the compassion of Jesus in this chapter.
Luke 13:34-35 (NLT2) " “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me. And now, look, your house is abandoned. And you will never see me again until you say, ‘Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the LORD!’” Have you ever wept over the city in which you live? Have you ever prayed over the city in which you live? Maybe you should. " I tell you the truth, everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, the Son of Man will also acknowledge in the presence of God's angels. But anyone who denies me here on earth will be denied before God's angels. Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven." - Luke 12:8-10
Here is what the Life Application Bible Commentary says about verse 10-"But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit—who continually rejects the Holy Spirit's message about Jesus and his convicting influence to believe in him—is beyond redemptive help. The rejection of the messenger (even of the Son himself) can be forgiven, but not the rejection of God himself through the Holy Spirit. The mighty works done by the Spirit were unmistakable announcements that the kingdom had arrived. Jesus said that those who blasphemed the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven--not because that sin is worse than any other, but because they will never ask for forgiveness. |
