Living- Learning- Duty- Doctrine

10/20/2019

Romans 6:1-10 (NLT2) -"  Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? 2  Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?"
The repetition of the word know in Romans 6:3,6 & 9 indicates that Paul wants us to understand a basic doctrine. Christian living depends on Christian learning; duty is always founded on doctrine.
If Satan can keep a Christian ignorant, he can keep him powerless.

The basic truth Paul is teaching is the believer’s identification with Christ in his death, burial and resurrection. Just as we are identified with Adam in sin and condemnation, so we are identified with Christ in righteousness and justification.
At Romans 5:12, Paul makes a transition from discussing sins to discussing sin- from the actions to the principle- from the fruit to the root.
Jesus not only died unto sin and we died with Him.

Victory- Liberty- Security

These objections prove that the readers both then and now do not understand neither law or grace. They go to extremes: legalism on the one hand and do anything on the other. So as Pail defends justification he also explains sanctification.
He tell us how we can live lives of victory(Rom.6), of liberty( Rom.7) and of security(Rom.8).
He explains our relationship to the flesh, the law and the Holy Spirit.
In Romans 6, Paul gives three instructions for obtaining victory over sin. Listen these are not just hypothetical suggestions but real instructions for victory. Do you want to know them? Do you want victory over sin?

Your Honor, I Object!

I love courtroom  drama shows. I don’t know there is that suspense, that drama, that ability to persuade people. One of favorite shows was “Matlock”. During the court session , an attorney will often rise to his feet and say,” Your Honor, I object!” Some of the Roman Christians must have felt like objecting as they heard Paul’s letter being read and Paul seemed to anticipate their thinking.
In Romans 6-8 Paul defends his doctrine of justification by faith. He anticipated three objections:
 (1) “If God’s grace abounds when we sin, then let’s continue sinning so we might experience more grace”( Rom.6:1-14).
(2) “If we are no longer under the law then we are free to live as we please” (Rom.15-7:6)
(3) “You have made God’s law sinful”( Rom.7:7-25)

You Decide!

The Responsibility of Mankind to Decide
Romans 5:21 (NLT2)  -"So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Before we leave today let’s go back 2000 years. It is a horrible day, three men on three crosses sentenced to die a horrible death. One man rails at the man in the middle, ”If you are the Messiah, why don’t you save yourself. Yet the other man, said to Jesus,” remember mewhen you come into your kingdom.”
And Jesus replied,” I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Every day , men and women, boys and girls either reject the Messiah, Jesus Christ or they accept Him. You have to decide that, too. Will you reject Him or accept Him.
Some of you say, but I prayed a prayer, I was baptized. But have you been born again. Are you a new creation in Christ? That my friends is the question.

Christ's Abundance of Grace Is Greater

Christ’s Abundance of Grace Is Greater Than Adam’s Abundance of Sin
Romans 5:20 (NKJV)  -"Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,"
Paul is pointed out again that the Law makes us aware that we are sinners. It shows the right and the wrong. It reveals clearly the extent of how we are sinners.
“But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more.”
A hymn was written from this verse:
Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.

Refrain: Grace, grace, God’s grace,
that will pardon and cleanse within;
, grace, God’s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin!
