It's natural for us to shrink back from any kind of trial; we all wish we could be free of problems and instead live a life of peace and serenity all our days. But life isn't like that at all, and we all know that it can radically change even in a matter of seconds. These last few days has shown us that. The real question is how will we react? Will we react in anger and despair? Will we lash out in hatred or revenge? Or will we turn to God in faith and seek His help?
" Consider it pure joy, my brothers , whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance." - James 1:2-3

Last night I was so disturbed and upset even after our prayer time. Then I picked up "My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald Chambers and begin to read in this great devotional book. The title that caught my eye was "Are You Ever Troubled?". It goes on to say," Peace, I leave with you, My peace I give to you..."( John 14:27)
Are you severely troubled right now? Are you afraid and confused by the waves and the turbulence God sovereignly allows to enter your life? Then look up and receive the the quiet contentment of the Lord Jesus Christ. So what are we to do," Look unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith( Hebrews 12:2). When a person confers with Jesus Christ, the confusion stops, because there no confusion in Him. He offers this," Let not your heart be troubled..."( John 14:27). The Bible is the Word of God. 2 Peter 1:21 says," For no prophetic message ever came just from the will of man, but men were under the control of the Holy Spirit as they spoke the message that came from God." The Bible all 66 books that make it up is a message to us from God. Do you remember getting a personal letter from someone? One actually written by their own hand? It was special wasn't it. God has sent us a love letter and we have access to it every day. Pick it up! Read it! and Believe it!
Ultimately our lives are in God's hand; even the next breath you take is a gift from Him. If He were to withdraw His hand from you, your life would end- despite the most strenuous efforts of your doctors.
What difference should this make? First, it should remind us of our dependence upon God. All too often we assume that our lives and our future are in our hands, But they aren't; they are in His hands. But this should also remind us that each day is a gift from God- a gift to be used wisely, joyfully, and for His glory. " No man has power over the wind to contain it; so no one has power over the day of his death."- Ecclesiastes 8:8 |
