"Revival is the extraordinary movement of the Spirit of God in the hearts of God's people that produces extraordinary results"( Richard Owen Roberts). To the glory of God I have seen Him move in extraordinary ways in my life. First, true encounter with the Risen Lord was when I was on my way back to Seminary in 1970. I was heading back after being out for about a year for the birth of our first child. I headed back on a Sunday afternoon and stop off in Irving,TX to spend the night with some friends before re-enrolling on Monday. I got there rather late and went to the church. The service was going on. As I sat there God got all over me. I was deeply convicted and as the invitation was given I held on to the back of the pew, resisting as hard as I could but God won out. I went down to the front and a brother I knew at the church met me. I could not speak, I was weeping to hard. And here is what he said," Lay it all at the cross." I did that night, laid everything at the cross and was filled with the Holy Spirit. This began a journey that has been extremely interesting, challenging and often difficult. Oh, Lord,'Do It Again!"
Simon Peter was notorious for it...betrayal I mean. Who will ever forget how he denied three times that he knew Jesus or had any connection to Him. It was when Jesus was in the courtyard of the high priest's home during his trial. Confess that you know Jesus, don't deny Him. Acknowledge Him everywhere , and don't pretend not to know Him. Because then you'll miss God's awesome grace and love.
"Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you that today, even this night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times."-Mark 14:30 (NKJV)
" For this reason I kneel before the Father." ( Ephesians 3:14)
To bow our knees before God, as Paul literally puts it in Ephesians 3;14, is to know our place before Him. His holiness wills us to bow down low before Him. Our own unworthiness makes us crumble before God. We are like dust to the heavenly scales, yet God has compassion on us. He sees us through His grace when we're humble and small before Him. Then God, in turn can fill us, and use us for His glory.
" Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker." Psalm 95:6 (NKJV)
All of us want to belong somewhere. Our family, friends and local community are places where we want to feel welcome and loved. The most important thing is to know that we always belong to God. The fact that He made is His children in Christ is the greatest comfort and certainty in our lives. In life and death we are part of His brand-new nation-" the Kingdom of God." We are His people, His co-heirs, and His treasured possessions.
" But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light."1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)
My heart deeply aches and desires to see true, God-sent revival. Those of us who were in the late 60's and early 70's saw the work of the Lord in awesome ways. We yearn to see it again. Send revival is our "Heart-cry."
The prophet Isaiah cried out," Oh, that You would rend[tear open] the heavens and come down."( Is.64:1)
The Psalmist wrote," Bow down Your heavens , O Lord, and come down."( Ps.144:5)
Micah, the prophet , declared," For behold, the Lord is coming out of His place; He will come down..."( Micah 1:3)
When we are desperate enough, when we are heart broken over the sins of our friends and family and nation then we will cry out and seek revival.
