Christ’s Reign of Life Is Greater Than Adam’s Reign of Death
Romans 5:17 (NKJV) -"For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ." I want to elaborate on this with several more Scriptures: Philippians 1:6 (NKJV) -"being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;" 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) -"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." Even though we still sin as believers, and we all do, we are longer mastered or enslaved by sin. Now we are victors and not victims.

Christ’s Salvation Is Greater Than Adam’s Condemnation
Romans 5:16 (NKJV) -" And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification." Once again it is proven that Christ’s act is far superior than Adam’s act. Listen to what 2 Corinthians 5:19 says,” That is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them…” I used an illustration Sunday about our granddaughter and her sons. When they are fighting and fussing with each other she places them both in one of their father's T-shirts which is called "get along together" T-shirts. Well, to carry this in a spiritual context. Jesus Christ would be the T-shirt that He places us in it with God, the Father to reconcile us to Him. Christ’s Gift is Greater Than Adam’s Offense
Romans 5:15 (NKJV) -" But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many." The purpose of Paul’s statement here is to prove that Christ’s one act of salvation had a much greater impact that Adam’s one act of rebellion. The sin of Adam brought death to everyone. But the gift by the grace of one Man, Jesus Christ , not only reversed the curse of death but provided a way for redeemed man to share in the very life of God. 2 Timothy 1:10 says,” …Jesus Christ who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” Adam and the Power of Sin in the World
Romans 5:13-14 (NKJV) 13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. Sin did not start with Moses. Sin started with Adam and so from Adam all the way to Moses, sin reigns and death reigns.Everyone who was born, except Enoch, everyone born died. Death was universal and still is. Our world is mark with tombs all over. We live very close to one of the largest cemeteries in Mexico. It is not a lovely place. This all sounds morbid, dark, despondent but this is what Paul is doing , he is setting us up for the Good News. Adam and the Penalty for Sin in the World
Romans 5:12 (NKJV) ,"...and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—" As Adam was the door through which sin entered the world, sin was the door through which death entered the world. Adam would have lived for ever but sin brought death. Death became part of the fallen human nature. There is 100 percent chance that everyone in this place will die unless Jesus returns soon. We are born with a sin nature inherited from Adam. King David said,” Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin my mother conceived me” ( Psalm 51:5) In other words, a person does not become a sinner because he commits sin. He commits sin because he is a sinner. |
