Then we look at SELFISHNESS. Selfishness whispers that cannot be happy unless we get the things we want. We exalt self above all others. It is all about ME! It is what I like, it is what I want. I must have this or I must do this. We think happiness lies in our possession, positions, pleasures. If only I had a better job, bigger house, nicer car, and more beautiful wife or husband. The fruit of this root sin is incalculable. We see this daily in our ministry. Thus, from pride and unbelief and selfishness flow all other sins. Deal with the root and the fruit disappear. Watchman Nee said, " In order to deal with the product you have to destroy the factory. Then there will be no more product."

The next root sin is UNBELIEF. In the garden Satan said," Indeed, has God said,' You shall not eat from any tree in the garden?'" We do not believe God can or will do what He promises. We do not believe that sin has its consequences. For the Bible says," The wages of sin is death."( Romans 3:23) but we don't believe that. Why ? Unbelief! Since we don't see people falling over dead, therefore that is not true. But people do die. People are dead spiritually and they act like there is no God. Unbelief results in murder, and all sort of criminal activity for those who do commit such acts do not think they are accountable to any God.
We are dealing with the root sins. The three root sins are pride, unbelief, and selfishness. We will look at PRIDE. When Satan tempted Eve in the garden here is what he said," You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God , knowing good and evil."( Genesis 3:4,5) You will be like God. Man has always sought to be like God. To be his own boss.; to run his own life. One of the major fruits of pride is the rejection of authority. It is called rebellion. To have it our way. We will not listen to the truth. We will not hearken unto the voice of God and thus we begin to self-destruct and destroy those around us.
.There are two types of sin that everyone must deal with. They are root sins and fruit sins. The root sins produce the fruit sins- the many outward expressions of rebellion against God. Yes, sin is rebellion against God. The fruit is obvious while the roots lie hidden underground. We must repent of both root and fruit sins. So where do we find the root sins in the Bible? Well, in Genesis 3 and then we see it explained clearer in 1 John 2:16 it says," For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but from the world." So the three root sins are: Pride, Unbelief , and Selfishness.
To come to God confidently and boldly is to approach Him with a conscience that is at rest. When we live close to the Lord, our conscience is finely tuned-in to the Holy Spirit. Then we are sensitive for His guidance in our lives. Then we are directed and guided by the constant leading of the Holy Spirit, When our conscience is at peace, then we can approach God's throne with confidence. Then we can bow humbly before the Lord with joy and peace.
" Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."- Hebrews 4:16 |
