The main goal of man

In 2 Peter 3:18, Simon Peter makes a remarkable statement, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever.” Early in his first letter he says this, “Like newborn infants, desire the unadulterated spiritual milk, so that you may grow by it in [your] salvation, since you have tasted that the Lord is good. Peter’s emphasis is in growing and the eighteenth verse gives us the way to grow. The key is glorifying God. The 17th century Puritan Catechism stated this, ”What is the chief end of man? The chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.”

Psalm 19:1 states, “The heavens declare the glory of God.” The vastness of space declares His glory.

Isaiah 43:20 you hear Isaiah say, “The beast of the field shall give me glory.” All of creation the heavens and the beast of the earth give God the glory.

At the birth of Jesus a heavenly host of angels proclaimed, “Glory to God in the highest.”

The book of Revelation, the great summation of history comes together, God’s redeemed, His people are there and they respond like this, “Hallelujah! Salvation, glory and power belong to our God.” We are to “Glorify God now and forevermore!”

Our Happiness

No one desires our happiness in this life more than the heavenly Father. Jesus Himself taught,” If you then , being evil , know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him.” (Matt.7:11) Knowing this, why should any of us want to settle for any of the cheap, fleeting substitutes of instant gratification that Satan offers. I read recently a news article that the only two areas not severely hit by the bad economy was the entertainment sector and restaurants ( eating out). Which means in some cases there are those who still try to find happiness in the external rather than the internal.

Our Heavenly Father desires our happiness and He has shown us how. Jesus clearly presented it to us in what we call the Beatitudes. The word blessed can also be used this way “ Happy are…”.

Happy are the poor in spirit…

Happy are those who mourn

Happy are the meek…

Happy are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…

Happy are the mercy…

The character and attitude describe in Matthew 5:3-12 is unattainable by self-effort, but is obtain through the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Paul said, ”Be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Traveling through Mexico

This past week Sandra and I went to San Antonio,TX to do several things that we needed to do. We had boxes of material sent to a church, where we pick them up. We shopped at two Christian bookstores and of course, Target and Wal-Mart. It is interesting that the last two visits to SA it has rained. SA is not a place where it rains often. After taking care of what needed to be done there we headed back down to Mexico. It rained and rained until right outside of Laredo. We made our way to Saltillo to spend the night and the next morning when we got up, it was pouring down rain and it was cold. Here again, another rare sight in Northern Mexico, particularly this time of year, in the dry season.

That morning, Friday we headed south toward Mexico City, soon we were driving through snow after the deluge. There is a mountain pass on the quota and we began noticing this white stuff at the higher elevations and sure enough it was snow. Then when we got to the highest point the landscape was beautiful dusted with snow. The fir trees and the cactus were covered with snow. We just had to get out and look at it and even take a few photos. This is a rarity for that part of the country. When it is normally cold enough to snow there is not enough moisture. After our stop we continue on and then we hit rain again along with hail. Following the rain and hail we encountered high crosswinds for the remainder of the trip. We battled that until we arrived in Mexico. When we got to one of the toll booths outside of MC we had to wait over thirty minutes to get through that and then when we got into MC it took us over an hour to got six miles. Surprisingly so, we made it in and was not extremely tired. It may have been the adrenaline that kept us going to the end. Sleep came easy that night. Praise God!

Filled with the Spirit

Now may  the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul and body be persevered blameless at the coming of our Lord.”  1 Thessalonians 5:23

Your whole spirit… The great work of the Holy Spirit is done mostly in the deep recesses of the being we cannot reach. Do you believe that God can fortify and protect our thought processes far beyond the where we can go? “… the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” ( 1 John 1:7)

This means that through the blood of Jesus Christ , His blood penetrates even the deepest levels of our soul to cleanse even that we may not be aware of. The person who has been dulled by sin will say he/she is not even aware of it. But the cleansing of sin we experience will reach the heights and depths of our spirit if” we walk in the light as He is in the light.” The same Spirit that fed the life of Jesus Christ will feed the life of our spirit. Don’t be dull of heart but “be filled with the Spirit.”

Don’t Miss God’s Answer

“ Is there anything too hard for the Lord? No!” Genesis 18:14
The God of surprises strikes again… God does that for the faithful. Just when the womb is too old for babies, Sarai gets pregnant. Just when the failure is too great for grace, David is forgiven…

The lesson ? Three words. “Don’t give up.”
Is the road too long? Don’t stop.
Is the night black? Don’t quit.
God is watching . For all you know right at this moment … the check may be in the mail.

The apology may be in the making.
The job contract may be on the desk.
Don’t quit. For if you do, you may miss the answer to your prayers.
